Information When the railway arrived, the town, with its amazing architecture, grew. Ängelsberg is also famous for its artists’ colony during the years around 1900.

Information Beautifully located homestead by Strömsholm canal, which has a lock and a guest harbour. Malla Löwenhielm’s manor house remains. A coffee shop with a glass-enclosed veranda, a shop and a small theme park for children.

Information Det sägs att en skatt är gömd i lindarna i herrgårdsparken – och att det spökar här. Herrgården byggdes 1829, men bruket har anor från 1500-talet. Området präglas idag av konst via Galleri Astley.

Information The smithy with its impressive hammer and power station are built a hundred years apart – 1799 and 1899. They both got power from the water which flows nearby. Nice walking path around the area.

Information The canal was opened in 1798 and transported mainly iron from the area of Bergslagen to Stockholm. The canal has 26 locks, is 100 kilometers long and has a 100 meter drop from one end to the other. Travel by boat in, or by car or bicycle alongside it.

Information This is the northern part of the Strömsholm canal which was finished in 1795. When the railway was connected from the north, four steam locomotives pulled around 70 cargo and five to six passenger carriages to and from this harbour.

Information Despite centuries of iron industry, Semla is today dominated by water and greenery. The old works was demolished when the lock was built. A forge ruin from the 17th century, the lock keeper’s home and a power house is all that remains today. Beautiful walking paths in the area.

Information Today there is a railway history museum in the old engine shed and its water tower. Part of the railway still exists nearby; all that is left of KURJ – the Köping-Uttersberg-Riddarhyttan Railway.

Information Railway history can be seen in the railway yard and engine shed in the form of a large collection of vehicles; six steam locomotives and the only turbo-locomotive in the world fit for driving (no. 71 litt M3t), built in 1939, the same year as the engine shed.

Information One of the stations along the KURJ railway. During the Second World War, there was a large Russian camp here. Russian soldiers who had fled the war were gathered here, in one of many places like it in the area of Bergslagen.

Information The Strömsholm canal, which was rebuilt in the 1780’s, has its own museum beautifully located by lake Dammsjön, near canal and locks. Children’s theme park. Walking paths in pleasant park surroundings.

Information This is the southern end of the Strömsholm canal, for a long time the largest harbour in lake Mälaren. Some historic buildings still remain. In the old iron shed there is information on the canal, and in the bridge-watchman cabin there is a café with a garden seating area.
