Information The village grew around the blast furnace from 1727, built near woods and coal. Pig iron was made from iron ore from Grängesberg. The village was part of Säfsen works. The cabin used by the workers who were hired on a daily basis is today a summer café. Walking and biking path to Gravendal.

Information Poet Dan Andersson was born in Skattlösberg, ”the capital” of the area to which the Finns came to work, known as ”finnmarken”. For a period Andersson lived in the cottage Luossastugan where he wrote about the lives of the charcoal-burners. A beautiful walking path leads to the cottage, where a singing guide awaits! Occasional song recitals are held in the evenings.

Information In the old days the paths were used during the summer months by locals on their way to church and their jobs at the iron works. Today the paths are marked and used for long-distance walks and the bicycle race ”Kyrkloppet”.

Information The ironworks, founded in 1857, was very big for its time. The works is today repaired, preserved, and worth seeing. Exhibitions and concerts. The forestry village is drawn by Ralph Erskine. Finnish remains.

Information Gravendal works was founded in 1720. The hammer forge and rolling mill would get their pig iron from Strömsdal. Today, the forge has been reconstructed to show German forging. Walking paths around the villagage, walking and biking path to Strömsdal.

Information A farm with roots in the 17th century, with a small museum showing what life in the area used to be like. There is also a Finnish smokehouse and a culture path around the estate with reminders of the Finns that came here to work. The farm is privately owned. A cabin by the lake is available for rent.

Information Walk through the woods to the smokehouse, which was later reconstructed and fitted with windows and chimney. It became the home of five children and a widow; the grandmother of the poet Dan Andersson, who spent a lot of time here. A guided tour of the cottage can be arranged (0240-66 23 51).

Information Where the rivers meet is where you will find the ironworks founded by Catharina Bröms, the lady of Wij and one of the great female foundry proprietors of the time. The sign-posted walking trail shows what remains today.
