Information Where the rivers meet is where you will find the ironworks founded by Catharina Bröms, the lady of Wij and one of the great female foundry proprietors of the time. The sign-posted walking trail shows what remains today.

Information It is said that a treasure is hidden among the linden trees in the manor park – and that there is a ghost there too. The manor was built in 1829, but the works date back to the 16th century. Today the area offers an artistic experience in the shape of the Astley gallery.

Information The smithy, with hammer and water wheel, is strategically located by the canal and has been restored thanks to non-profit contributors. The large, well preserved coal building is located on the slope nearby and there is a charring stack on the other side of the canal.

Information An 18th century manor house and main street lined with red wooden houses where the smiths' used to live, only a stone's throw from central Gävle. In the river Gavleån there is a power station from the 1920's.

Information The village grew around the blast furnace from 1727, built near woods and coal. Pig iron was made from iron ore from Grängesberg. The village was part of Säfsen works. The cabin used by the workers who were hired on a daily basis is today a summer café. Walking and biking path to Gravendal.

Information The works was founded in 1700 by Christopher Polhem and Gabriel Stierncrona. All sorts of general goods were manufactured here. A medium sized iron works remained until 1942.

Information Beautifully located near the lake, the church and the town, is this white manor house from the 18th century, today a forest warden college. Historic buildings and a local folklore society can be found on the street Bruksgatan.

Information Because of the petrified iron clay, silver could not be extracted from the rock. When iron mining took over, only the village name, which refers to it being a silver works, remained. Today it is a beautiful, and uninhabited, place with a working lock.

Information Both a Russian tsar and Swedish king Gustav V have stayed overnight here. At that time the railway ran all the way here from Ludvika. Today there are nice bicycle paths, a small shop with home interior items and gifts, a café which serves light lunches and a Bed & Breakfast.

Information Saint Anna, the miners’ guardian angel, has her own chapel next to the manor house from the caroline era, built in 1700. The granary, with its 228 ventilation holes, is worth a look.

Information A furnace was built in 1672 on the site of the old works, but operation ceased in 1881. Manor house and many other buildings are preserved. Today, Kratte furnace offers conference facilities.

Information The works was called Riddarhyttan until the 15th century. There was iron and gun powder production here as well as a Cistercien monastery, which is why the name later changed to Klosters bruk (monastery works). Engineer Gustav de Laval was employed at the works 1876-77.

Information This is one of the country’s best preserved historic mining and works environments. Pig iron from the many blast furnaces in the area was refined in the smithy. Former homes, from a worker’s apartment to the manor house, are open to visitors.

Information A modern works ruin with impressive blast furnace stacks. Business, with 250 employees, was seething here only 50 years ago. At 150 meters, the charcoal building is one of the longest wooden buildings in Sweden.

Information Smiths and ironworkers resided in Hammarbacken, and today there is a small museum here which shows how they lived. There is also a café, varying exhibitions in the old white storehouse Magasinet, activities for children Wed at 13, Saturday flea-market by the Aquarium 9-15. The 'knife-week' July 12-18.

Information Perhaps Swedish 17th century countess Ebba Brahe sat in this pavilion, reminiscing of her young love king Gustav II Adolf. It is one of the few remaining buildings from Bockhammar iron works, which Ebba inherited from her father in 1633.

Information Ironworks from the 17th centrury, near the border of Hälsingland. A new, large ironworks was built in the 1860's; the factory building remains. Several barge and sailing boat wrecks lie on the bottom of the surrounding waters.

Information On 18 July 1858 , the first successful attempt at the Bessemer process took place here. This was a technological and historical world sensation and meant that steel could be made cheaply in large quantities. Today, it's a beautiful nature spot.
