Information Beautifully located homestead by Strömsholm canal, which has a lock and a guest harbour. Malla Löwenhielm’s manor house remains. A coffee shop with a glass-enclosed veranda, a shop and a small theme park for children.

Information Pleasant park area with a canal museum, a café and a theme park for children near the Strömsholm canal. The founder of the canal, Johan Ulfström, moved into the house Mekanikus, named after his own title of managing director and head engineer combined, in 1782. The house became the permanent resident for his successors.

Information Already in the century 400 BC – that’s 2,600 years ago – iron was made from the ferruginous red soil here. Today the process is repeated on “red soil day”, held on the first Sunday of August each year. A family day is held in June. Pretty walking paths.

Information A reconstructed Middle Age works village. Iron trials using Middle Age methods are conducted in the blast furnace during the month of July. Information is displayed in Berghuset. A small mine, with pithead frame and gallery, is available for children to explore.

Information Smiths and ironworkers resided in Hammarbacken, and today there is a small museum here which shows how they lived. Information Railway history can be seen in the railway yard and engine shed in the form of a large collection of vehicles; six steam locomotives and the only turbo-locomotive in the world fit for driving (no. 71 litt M3t), built in 1939, the same year as the engine shed.
